LG Intros Solar Powered GD510 Phone

Filed under: Mobile Phones — joshua @ 10:10 am

LG has added a new phone to its lineup, the GD510, also called Pop. The compact phone has a 3-inch touchscreen with 240×400 resolution, EDGE, 3 megapixel camera, 8 gigs of internal storage, 3.5mm headphone jack, and interestingly, solar power. The phone has an optional back cover with solar panels, that can slowly recharge its batteries when placed in sunlight.

LG’s intentions were to keep the cost of this mobile phone low, one of the reasons they have chosen EDGE over 3G. The phone comes in an aluminum casing with just one button on the front. This button changes its function to best suit the context. The GD510 uses S-Class interface like its predecessor, the LG Cookie. The phone will first be made available in Europe, and though LG haven’t specified the price yet, it shouldn’t cost much when the Pop launches mid-October.
