VIA Unveils New Full HD NetNote Netbooks

Filed under: Laptops — joshua @ 2:07 am

VIA has unveiled its new NetNote turnkey netbooks, with a promise of flawless HD content. Screensizes for these netbooks vary from 10.2-inch to 12.1-inch LED screens. While full HD seems to present a better alternative than the competitors, VIA has kept screen resolutions seemingly inadequate. The 10.2-inch version will get a measley 1024×600, while the 12.1 incher gets a better deal with 1366×768 resolution.

Both versions will have a fixed 2 GB RAM, pre-loaded Windows XP, 160GB/ 320GB hard disks, (or an optional 1.8 inch SSD whose capacity has not been mentioned), WiFi, two USB ports, EVDO based 3G, 0.3 megapixel webcam, and a standard three-cell battery or an optional six-cell version. The netbooks also get an integrated mp3 player operating which does not require the system to boot, an extendable antenna and an FM transmitter to send audio outputs for nearby FM receivers.

The notebooks will run on VX855 graphics chipset/ media processors whose support for H.264, MPEG-2/4, VC-1, and WMV9 may actually make handling full HD an easier task for these netbooks.

HP Mini 311 Offers a Lot in a Small Package

Filed under: Laptops — joshua @ 2:06 am

The HP Mini 311 is a small notebook with an LCD screen that spans 11.6-inches diagonally. But it offers full 1080p HD playback on that BrightView Widescreen display with 1366 x 768 resolution. It weighs just 3.2 pounds and runs on Intel Atom N270 processor.

The specs aren’t awesome either, it’s plain 1GB of RAM and 160 GB SATA hard disk, 802.11 b/g WLAN, integraged microphone, integrated webcam and NVIDIA ION LE with up to 319MB total graphics memory. But what’s great is, that even with these average to low specs, the Mini 311 can turn into an impressive entertaining unit, especially because it gets a much better resolution and screen size when compared to its competitors. Another big plus for the 311 is its comparatively lower cost, it will be on sale this month with a price tag of just $400 with XP Home Edition SP3 pre-installed, but if you’d rather go along with Windows 7, it will be available in October with a slightly higher asking price of $475.

Rabook Launches Reaper R87H Gaming Laptop

Filed under: Laptops — joshua @ 1:07 am

Chinese manufacturer Rabook has come up with a new laptop intended for gaming. The manufacturer is known for gaming laptops, and this one is very much geared up for some high class gaming action. The R87H gaming notebook may not have killer looks, it is in fact a very plain looking gadget, but it may go well with gaming. It has an 18.4-inch display with a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, and at its heart is an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 2.53GHz processor.

The graphics department is taken well care of by the Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M GPU, the system also has 4 GB of RAM, 320 GB Hard drive and an 8-cell 4400Wh lithium ion battery. Its not clearly mentioned what they are using to cool the system, but I guess the conventional fan mechanism won’t be enough to cool this giant. It may be a laptop, but it isn’t all that portable; the R87H weighs in at 5.3kg. Also, it isn’t one of those cheap products, prices start at a wallet stinging $2,767.

Acer Launches new Ferrari One Notebook

Filed under: Laptops — joshua @ 1:06 am

Acer is one of the major sponsors of the Ferrari F1 team, and the perks of pouring the money there don’t just end with getting its name and logo printed on the F1 race car, Acer also gets to put Ferrari’s prancing horse on its notebooks. Acer’s latest Ferrari branded notebook has been named the Ferrari One, and it can be expected to provide performance that justifies the Ferrari name attached to the notebook.

The notebook is covered in the famed Ferrari red color, with the prancing horse logo in the center and Acer’s name at the top left. Ferrari One utilizes the new AMD Congo platform. This platform comes with a dual-core AMD Athlon X2 L310 processor running at 1.2 GHz and with 1MB L2 cache at its disposal.

Good performance is a fact with this notebook, so is a price tag that will go high up as well. The notebook will first go on sale in Europe on October 22 with a price tag of 499 Euros (US$ 728).

Asus EeeBox EB 1012

Filed under: Gadgets, Laptops — fane @ 12:07 am

Home theater PCs are good, but expensive to own, but it looks like Asus is about to change the game with the EeeBox Home theater PC. Asus isn’t speaking about the pricing or release dates just yet, but there are some delicious details to feed on. The compact EB 1012 will measure just 222mm x 178mm x26.9mm and will run off an Atom N330 dual core processor.

The PC will have a 150 GB SATA HDD, 2 GB RAM (expandable to 4 gigs), gigabit ethernet, 802.11n WiFi, S/PDIF 5.1 audio connection, HDMI output, multi card reader, port for external SATA hard drive, 4x USB ports, and of course, support for full HD (1080p). Plus, this one is likely to handle flash videos well, something that will make it enjoyable for watching movies online, and also get an upper hand on the competition. That long list makes it almost a complete home theater, even though the lack of Blu-ray capabilities may be a bit of a dampener, but the price will more than likely make up for it.
