Samsung has announced a new camera, and the feature packed device is scheduled to reach store shelves in the USA in October. The newly announced HZ25W will be called WB5000 in Europe, and will be available for US$400. The camera seeks to combine the form factor of compact pocket cameras with the larger zooms that are seen in the DSLR range, an attribute that obviously puts it between both these ranges.
Samsung has endowed the HZ25W with 24x optical zoom coming from a 26mm wide-angled lens. The 12.5 megapixel camera can record 720p HD video in H.264 format, handle uncompressed RAW images (JPEG images of course work too), and there’s a list of (mostly usual) goodies to augment its manual controls. HZ25W has automatic adjustment for color, brightness and movement, and then there’s optical and digital image stabilization, face recognition and blink detection. What’s lacking here is an HD output, presence of which would have made the pot sweeter.

Genius has unveiled its new HD camcorder, the G-Shot HD520, which has a weight of just 170 g and is capable of recording movies with 720p resolution, as MPEG-4/H.264, or take pictures from 11 Mpix .
The internal memory is almost pointless, given that it comes just 32 MB, but obviously is a slot for SDHC cards up to 8 GB.
Genius G-Shot HD520 is equipped with a 5X digital zoom, the recognition of faces and electronic stabilizer, the screen is 2.5 “and can be rotated 270 degrees. The price is $ 149, about € 114.

For those who are craving for dSLR quality with their pictures, but are hoping to avoid the size that came along with the technology so far, there is definite good news in the air. The much anticipated and hotly debated about Sigma DP2 will soon be up for grabs and depending on whom you believe this will be either at the beginning of May of maybe at the fag end of the month.

Either way, the DP2’s availability should please all those who have been clamoring for it since long. Both Amazon and B&H have pre-order pages up for it and if you wish to bring one home to snap up some great shots this late summer, then maybe now is the time to order. While B&H says May on availability, Amazon preferred the vague ‘one to two months’ approach.
By June, you could pocket the DP2, if you are willing to part with $649!
Olympus has decided that it will treat the chaps in the UK with an extra special gift by unleashing its two brand new digital cameras exclusively for the UK market and more specifically with the UK retailer Jessops. The X-915 and X-890 recently made their debut and both of them look like pretty appealing options in their own respective price ranges, but it is the bigger and more loaded X-915 that quite obviously hogs your attention.

The 12-megapixel X-915 comes loaded with 5x optical zoom, a 2.7-inch hypercrystal- LCD screen, image stabilization, and smile recognition feature making it a complete delight for all the shutterbugs who love to snap up the perfect shot. You can pocket the X-915 for £299 and in case you think that is a tad bit too expensive, then try the X-890 instead, which is available at £259.
The 10-megapixel X-890 comes with a 3x optical zoom and lacks host of features like smile recognition, which otherwise come with the X-915. Weighing it up, the X-915 still looks like the better option in terns of value for money. For now these are available just with Jessops in UK, but they could soon be out elsewhere in the world.
