When it comes to producing the absolute best in electronic gadgets and dishing out supreme quality, Philips has always been at the high end. This time (once again) they’ve lived up to their reputation with their latest LCD offering, which is all set to light up your home and transform your living room.

The company has put a price tag and more importantly announced a release date for the larger than life 21:9 Cinema LCD that is sure to steal the hearts of movie lovers all across the globe. The 52-inch ultra wide Cinema display is set to hit stores in UK this June and will set you back by €4,000 (some $5,000).

While it might take a tad bit longer for it to cross the Atlantic and set stand on US stores, expect the price to maybe drop to $4000 by then… Just maybe! If you are planning on building your own home theater, then this might be a cool option to bring home the stars!

Canon WP-V1 underwater case for future Vixia Camcorders

Filed under: News — Ionica @ 10:23 am

Canon is set to soon unleash their Vixia HF20 and Vixia HF200 Full HD Flash Memory Camcorders. But before they hit the market, they are flashing cool add-ons for the camcorders that will allow you to shoot underwater.

The WP-V1 casing is custom crafted for the HF 20 and HF 200 and can sustain a dive up to 130 feet, while offering you the complete freedom to maintain the control and functionality of the camera.

While this will not excite the professionals all that much as they have plenty of options for underwater filming already, the WP-V1 is aimed at the casual shutterbug who might be capable of shelling out $599 just for this case. Yes, that is the price of the WP-V1 alone!

I guess it is money well spent if you are going scuba diving in transparent blue water of Caribbean for next holiday or on that Romantic honeymoon to Turtle Island

Honeywell’s Altura LE series HDTV: An 82-inch LCD giant

Filed under: Displays — Ionica @ 10:28 am

Not many electronic companies from the US often dish out giant LCD screens and electronic gadgets with plenty of pomp. But Honeywell decided to change that convention with a little bit of aid in technological know-how from Taiwanese firm SOYO, by unleashing a 82-inch LCD giant as apart of its Altura LE series.

Coming in sizes of 47”, 57”, 65”, 70” and 82” they are all Full HD Ready with the largest of the lot sporting 16:9, 120Hz LCD panel resolution display that’s capable of 120,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 600 cd/m2 brightness and 178-degree viewing angle.

But this does not yet mean that Honeywell is competing with big boys as they just seem to be aiming to cut into the domestic market share and the 82-inch behemoth seems more like a beacon that will attract publicity to market the smaller versions at affordable prices and as more appealing designs than what is on offer in the market today. The plan seems to be working for now!

Sigma postpones Canon-mounted 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM again and again

Filed under: News — Ionica @ 10:30 am

It seems that Sigma have contracted the unveiling stigma when it comes to releasing their brand new Canon-mounted 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM (brought to the market long time ago(. While the initial launch date for the tentative EF-mounted lens was set as February 21st, it was soon revealed that it would take place three week later in mid-April.

But the latest news seems to be that Sigma put this date off as well and no reasons have been given for the set back, making the whole thing all the more mysterious. Rumors are doing rounds that the digitally optimized crop sensor lens is being held back so that Sigma can bring out a pair of full-frame optimized OS 70-300mm and 70-200mm.

The only way to find out would be to wait till PMA 2009 and for Sigma to make another announcement then…

Surely they cannot postpone again!
